The Oregon Clinic’s Gastrointestinal & Minimally Invasive Surgery Division welcomes Rehan Ahmad, M.D. Dr. Ahmad is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon. His special interest lies in the minimally invasive and robotic treatment of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and rectal prolapse. He has worked as an attending colon and rectal surgeon in Portland for the last eight years.
Dr. Ahmad received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow Medical School in Glasgow, Scotland in 1992 and graduated in the top five percent of his class. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois/Metro Group Hospitals in Chicago, Ill., and completed his colon and rectal surgery fellowship at St Vincent Health Center, Department of Colorectal Surgery in Erie, Penn., with further fellowship training from St. Mark’s Hospital in London.
Dr. Ahmad is the recipient of several honors and awards including the John Hunter Medal in Biology and the Mary Margaret Isabel Ure Prize in Medicine and Surgery, and has conducted basic science and clinical research in his specialty. He was among the first physicians in Portland to use the robotic approach in the treatment of rectal cancer.
Originally from Scotland, Dr. Ahmad now enjoys the drier climate of Portland with his wife and nine year-old son. His interests include medieval history and literature. He has a passion for skiing and avidly follows rugby and cricket.
